Float tanks were created not by an inventor but by a scientist. In 1953, Dr. John C. Lilly set out to study the human mind's reaction to a lack of stimulus in float tanks (then referred to as deprivation tanks).

Lilly found the human mind responded to the lack of stimulus in the tanks with a profound sense of peace and greater self-awareness.

Twenty years later, in 1973, the tanks were first commercially produced by Samadhi Co.

Interest in floating is growing! From mental health research, the military, and professional athletes, floating is becoming increasingly common.
